Launching of Training your Army.

Tsk.. Training your army? That lady in the picture? Who is she kidding?

Now, now, slow down tiger. I am not really training an army of people for combat seriously who am i kidding?

The author

I am no figure athlete, though I wish I were. There's still a long, painful, enjoyable, wet (sweat, don't get any ideas) and intense way to go before i get even remotely there. So what is this 'Training your Army' all about?

Throughout the years I've been hitting the gym it is hard not to notice the scarce amount of girls going near the weights, let alone lifting heavy weights. Yet I see the treadmills and the RPM bicycle area overspilling with these gentle species trying to 'keep fit' as they put it, at the speed even my grandmother could keep up.

I'm being serious here, my sweet grandma is 73 years old this year and a short round on the skipping rope feels nothing more than a trip from the bedroom to the kitchen, jogging.

That besides the point, they are obsessed with being 'thin' and frankly speaking it's getting tiring to see or listen to a these girls complaining about how they are too fat when in fact they look like they would function well as chopping board (okay, scratch that they might just break).

I used to be 'skinny fat'- at 5'2 my weight was hovering between 105 to 110 lbs and my clothes were always snug around the mid-section and thighs (thanks to genetics). I am also what you would call a 'fat-bottom-girl' (FBG) or whatever creative name people has invented since Beyonce. In 2009 I started hitting the gym frequently, my clothes loosened up but my weight never faltered, it felt like i found miracle! Fast forward to 2011, 3 months of a new set of program, still at 5'2 (sadly, no matter how hard I pray that will never change) i gained 2.4 kg of muscles which puts me at 115.3 pounds as-of date. I look the best than I've been all my life.

So, what's my point exactly?

My point is, i would buy a sniper and shoot down anybody who calls me skinny. Of course that is just a form of expression to show how strongly i feel about wanting to be skinny and being called skinny. It is not a healthy mindset which over time will consume and destroy you as a person. So an honest advice from an average girl to another average girl, stop obsessing about the numbers on your weighing scale. Follow this blog and restructure your mindset, you don't want to get skinny, it's unhealthy and not the slightest bit attractive.

Walking on the runway:  a skinny model wearing nothing but under garments during a fashion show.

Now these are attractive and healthy: aim to be fit and  healthy not 'skinny'.

Fitness models: The definition of healthy, fit and attractive exuding confidence.

Of course my goal and definition of attractive comes in the form of a certain Swedish figure athlete by the name of Pauline Nordin. Warning: Refrain from googling the name if you think you won't be able to handle it, this is not for the faint hearted.

Training your Army

Women and (some) men in general are obsessed with the idea of weight loss and dieting. I'm not saying that it is wrong to want to lose a few pounds or try to attain a slim figure. But it is wrong when it is done with unhealthy mindset and unrealistic goals. Majority of people cut down their food consumption, restrict calories, cut out certain kind of food from their diet or just starve in their pursuit of weight loss. Achieving weight loss may seem easier and faster this way but it is never long term and often destructive. This will be explained in another post, another time.

Now, some people opt for hours of slaving on the thread mill, RPM bicycle or aerobics hoping if they stay on the routine hard or often enough the more fats they will shade. Of course this approach is much healthier than the former approach, however we fail to acknowledge the adaptive capability of our body and the breaking down of muscle protein during aerobic exercises (catabolic state). When your body starts adapting, you will non longer burn as much of calories as you used to doing the same amount of work. If you are an avid runner, you can only run for so long. So what are you not doing right?

What you are not doing right is by not incorporating weight lifting into your weight loss plan.   Weight lifting builds muscles which assist your body in fat burning and elevate your body's calories consumption. Good news? That's like finding the holy grail!

Generally men are much more enthusiastic with the idea of building muscles and losing weight while the women tends to shy away from the notion. Occasionally, I would see a girl gravitate towards the weight area out of curiosity, lift the lightest barbell and does a curl or two before slithering away. It leaves me thinking, "If only they know the benefit they could reap from weight lifting. If only someone could show them how and tell them that weight lifting is the weapon to combat fats and cure to their state of mind."

With that in mind, I started 'Training your army'. This blog tells the average girls and men to load the weights on the barbell or dumbbell, rip it off the ground and work your way to achieve healthiest, fittest and sexiest body you have ever achieved. I will share my experiences that will guide you through your journey of attaining a healthy body and hopefully we can learn a thing or two from each other.

So the next time you hit the gym, do not shy away from the weights. Lift it, feel it, work it, own it. Think of Training your Army.
